New Dawn on horizon – Final Harbord Diggers plans approved

It has been a long journey but one which was certainly worth the fight. A decision has just been made by the Joint Regional Planning Panel to approve the final plans for the new Harbord Diggers at Freshwater.

The Manly Warringah Waratahs are extremely excited by the news. It is a great outcome for the Harbord Diggers club, its members, supporters and the local community.

The decision to approve the final plans is a vindication of the club’s community consultation process and dedication to create a high quality design for the site. It is the result of over three years of intensive planning and community engagement and they worked very hard to listen to all parties as part of this development and have been guided by the positive feedback they have received from the people of the Northern Beaches.

It is an incredible result and one which would not have been achieved without the overwhelming support from members.

A New Dawn for the Diggers is now on the horizon and for that, we congratulate the Harbord Diggers. With this approval they can commence their plans to build a new legacy – a legacy that can live on for generations to come.

The Harbord Diggers development concept is considered a world first, with the creation of a truly intergenerational community hub that combines entertainment, living, fitness, dining, wellbeing, childcare and enjoyment – all in one place.

The site will include the development of a quality seniors’ living village with 97 one to three bedroom apartments, a professional childcare facility for placement of up to 90 children, state-of-the-art fitness and aquatic centre, and of course upgraded club facilities including a brand new hospitality precinct, children’s play areas, new bars and lounges, function facilities and enhanced member services.

While plans are yet to be confirmed about the intended launch of the new facilities, we can confirm that the club will remain in operation throughout the entire redevelopment process and looks forward to your patience during this time.

With construction set to commence in mid-2015, The Harbord Diggers has some great ideas planned to assist with offering the best service and facilities for the temporary club and hope you are able to support them throughout construction.

So again on behalf of the Manly Warringah Waratahs we would like to congratulate Dale Hunt and his wonderful team at Harbord Diggers, and indeed the entire Mounties organisation, on this fantastic achievement.
