Green Shield Round 2 vs Campbelltown-Camden – Match Report

Green Shield Round 2 – Manly-Warringah 9/176 (O. Davies 72, H. Kantor-Smith 36, J Osborne 20) def Campbelltown 175 (B Watts 2/32, W Greenland 2/39)

The Greenies boys rocked up to Manly oval keen for their first game. After winning 1 from his last 16 tosses, Davies lost the toss again and gave Campbeltown the opportunity to bat. Brewster picked up a wicket in the first over, with a nice edge to first slip. Campbelltown’s second wicket started to build a partnership before Davies got one to sneak through the gate. The wickets started to tumble after the second wicket with Campbelltown losing 7 for 28. Bowling highlights were from the two spinners Watts 10 overs 2 for 32 and Greenland 10 overs 2 for 39. Tight bowling from Bennett 6 overs 1 for 14 also helped keep Campbelltown to a chasuble 174.

The Manly boys were confident in chasing down Campbelltown’s total, with openers Colyer and Kantor-Smith immediately looking to get off to a positive start. Colyer fell in the third over for 1. Davies came to the crease intending on keeping a positive mindset similar to the openers. With the partnership coming close to one hundred, Davies was given out LBW for 71. With Kantor-Smith still at the crease, the chase was still looking quite reasonable. Campbelltown were given a glimpse of hope when Kantor-Smith’s solid 36 and Osborne’s handy 20 came to an end. Manly then lost 5-22 giving Campbelltown the upper hand. Coming down to the last wicket needing 12 to win, Barnett and Greenland kept their cool to help get the boys over the line.
