The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, born of a desire to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavours, in its international and national capacity, to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose is to protect life and health and ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, co-operation and lasting peace amongst all people.
Manly Warringah District Cricket Club have started our own group donation with the Red Cross. This is where all donations throughout the year contribute to the clubs tally for donations that save lives.
Why give blood? You can be certain that when you give blood, you are really making a difference to someone’s life. Blood is vital to life and, for many people, blood donors are their lifeline. Currently, only 1 in 30 Australians gives blood, but 1 in 3 Australians will need blood in their lifetime.
Every type of blood is important. Because type O is the most common blood type, it is also the most needed. Type O negative is particularly valuable because, in certain emergency situations, it can be used when the patient’s blood type is unknown.
Anyone can donate money to the Red Cross by phone. Call 1800 811 700 (free call).
