Photos; QF Manly 5/171 win over Penrith 161. Manly's win moves them up to 2nd place and they will now host a Semi Final at Manly Oval v Mosman on March 24+25.
On arrival at Penrith we were greeted by a belter of a wicket. The toss was won by Manly and we knew we had to bowl them out to have any chance of victory. The bowling was accurate and the fielding energy matched in effort. The first wicket fell to Danny Reynolds and a regular procession followed. The pick of the bowlers on the day was Andrew Lindsay with 4/45. Rowan Hamman came up with a excellent run out and when the rain hit we had Penrith 9/161.
Day 2 under cloudy skies and a wicket in the first over to Andrew Lindsay gave him 5/45 and the Manly boys were well and truly in the match.
The new ball and a wicket with a bit in it after the rain made batting hard work. Luke Cameron and Rowan Hamman got us off to a steady start until an edge saw Rowan out at 1/35. Scott Patterson departed the same way in a period of very good bowling from Penrith, now 2/49. Jamie Cox was up next and another good ball saw us at 3/60. Luke scored a very important 56 but with his departure at 4/88 the game was well in the balance. Micheal Cosentino didnt get a chance under gloomy skies and at 5/90 the Penrith boys were really firing up.
The pressure was really on and if there was ever a time for a captains knock this was it. Mark Mcinnes 31no weathered the storm and together with Damon Smith 51no who batted superbly under constant pressure, they saw us over the line. Their experience and cool temperament under fire showed through in a great partnership of 81 runs. At tea Manly was 5/171 and the Penrith skipper conceded defeat.
