Mick Pawley awarded OAM for services to cricket

Mick_PawleyMick Pawley. The name means alot of things to alot of people. Mike is the kind of person where everything has already been said about the man, so how do you add to it? He has done so much good work for so many people involved with cricket on the Northern Beaches, so it is with great pleasure that we announce that Mike Pawley has been awarded an OAM for Services to cricket in today's Australia day celebrations.

Mike is a Life Member of Manly Warringah District Cricket Club (MWDCC), Manly Warringah Cricket Association, and the NSW Cricket Association, but his legacy is so much more than that. His contribution to local cricket, both at a junior level and at a senior level, is immense. Ask most of the guys at MWDCC who the most influential person was in their time in the juniors, and their answer will be Mike Pawley. Ask alot of ex-players who the most influential person was on their cricket careers, and you will get the same response.

From the stories of his playing days, such as wearing only his box to get the boys riled up at tea, to the cutting up of $50 notes at training to show the boys the consequences of losing so many balls, everyone has a Mike Pawley story. The old guys say he was the best person to play with, the newer guys say he was the best person to play for.

Well done Mickey, you are a legend of our club and always will be, and thoroughly deserve this great award.
